LE MODULOR

le modulor is a method of measurement that created by architect, le conbusier in 1943. in other word, modulor is a mathematical measurement base on human's body. the idea of le modulor is developed from Da Vinci's Vitruvian man that he (da vinci) attempted to relate human body with geometrical proportion.

Form Follows Function, Function Follows Form.

Form follows function. We often here this term regarding designs and most notably in the modern architectural field. But what is it exactly? According to the site Wikipedia, 'Form follows function' is the principle that shapes a building or an object primarily based upon its intended functions or purposes. This simply means that the practicality (usage) of the building or object is more important than the aesthetic
(design) values.

Function follows form on the other hand is a total opposite of the concept mentioned in the above paragraph. The aesthetic value of a building or an object is put first rather than the practicality. For example, a building might look majestic, futuristic and grand to one's eye, but in truth the function of the building would be just as similar to a building that has none whatsoever aesthetic values.

less is definitely more

LESS IS MORE often used by minimalist artist and functionalist. it can be found in all sort of art form for example music, architecture, literature, sculpture, etc. it started somewhere in 1945 after the world war II. minimalist bare an idea that any form of art have to be stripped down to its fundamental features. (Wikipedia)

paint it black by Richard Serra

minimalism, simplicity, less is more its all the same idea - making things as less as you can. the outcome may be simple but the process, barely not . the process (as written by John Maeda in The Laws of SimplicityThink. Then reduce. Then think again, harder. Reduce some more. Repeat process again. Repeat. Again.

Some designers prefer minimal and simple visual characteristic in their design as it is often eye pleasing, and in advertising, minimalistic design creates a clear and straight forward message so that it is easier for the audience to understand. Other than that this kind of design or technique avoids the common problem in  creating an advertisement which is clutter.

People tend to associate the 'less is more' concept with arts and design only, but in truth this concept applies in everyday life as well. As Albert Einstein once said, 'If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it'.

Environmental Design 101

objective of research - to study any shopping mall's information counter and directory board.
location - Subang Parade, Subang Jaya, Selangor.
subject - Environmental Design

RESEARCH OUTCOMES

For this research i chose SUBANG PARADE because of few reasons, both positive and negative. (one of it; it's really near to my place XD)

Information Counter

Subang Parade's Information Center has a practical design, because of:

1. placed on center of the mall

2. bright and contra from other surrounding

3. sleek and efficient look

4. tall pole to indicate its location from any level

left: huge pole that can be seen from any level  |  right: clean and sleek design

Directory Board

Unfortunately Subang Parade's directory don't really catch my intention cause of few reasons:

1. hard to find, hidden

2. really bulky and not up-to-date design

3. not friendly user (do not state where the user at, etc.)

4. dull

Overview

As overall, Subang Parade's Information Counter and Directory Board has its own value in-term of design wise.

asignaciĆ³n de tres (tareas)

for this assignment three, we've divided our task with many parts. i'm responsible for the graphics in the assignment. i and my partner, On-Uma have been spending our time searching and editing all the image content inside the flash. all the image are taken from stock image website provider and we edit it using adobe photoshop.

asignaciĆ³n de dos (proceso)

1. So what you have to do for assignment 2?

for my second assignment i need to 'animate' my previous assignment which i had to create a 'global unity' poster. so all i do is create a motion tweet to move some part of my poster and add some background music to give more mood to it. my objective in this flash animation are just the same as my previous poster. using colors as my theme. when all the colors combined, it will become black. so technically the black color resemble the unity.

2. What software did you use?

- adobe photoshop cs4
- adobe flass cs4

3. What did you do in adobe photoshop?

in photoshop i create a background layout. later on i will use that background as my main background in my flash animation. then there'll be some animated object in front of the background that i've created.

4. How about in adobe flash, anything to share?

ok obviously it's my first time using flash. so what i did is just a basic technique. in this flash animation i have two scene. the first scene (title) i started with a new file and insert a new layer. with that i insert bitmap image as my background. then i insert another new layer for the text. i animate that text by erase keyframe by keyframe. to achieve the 'writing' effect i need to reverse all the keyframe.

first scene - title

for the second scene i create another new layer to set a new background (bottom)

second scene - background

then i insert symbols from the library and create a motion tweet to make the symbols move.the symbols enter the frame and move towards the middle frame.

then i complete it by adding some 'slogan' and animate the text. and add some symbol at the last frame.

and last but not least i end the flash with action. i add scripting in a new layer and put stop();
